Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin Seeds
Supplies
  • 1 Skein of any Bulky (# 5 on label) Yarn
  • 1 size 8 mm Circular Knitting Needles
  • 1 size 9 mm Circular Knitting Needles
  • 1 set of 9 mm Double Pointed Knitting Needles
  • 2 Stitch Markers
  • 1 Cable Needle
  • 1 Tapestry Needle
  • 1 Large Button (optional)
Abbreviations
  • sts = stitches
  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • k2tog = knit next two stitches together
  • p2tog = purl next two stitches together

Gauge (you may have to adjust needle size to get the correct gauge):
  • Using size 8 mm circular knitting needles: 12 sts = 4 inches (3 sts per inch)
  • Using size 9 mm circular knitting needles: 8 sts = 4 inches (2 sts per inch)

Let's Begin:
CO 54 sts
Being careful not to twist the sts, place first stitch marker and join. Be sure to move stitch marker placements for each round.

Round 1: *k1, p1*, around
Round 2: *p1, k1*, around
Round 3: repeat round 1
Round 4: repeat round 2
Round 5: repeat round 1
Round 6: repeat round 2
Round 7: repeat round 1
Round 8: Change to 9 mm needles, k 4, (place second stitch marker), *p 2, k 2*, around
Round 9 – 12: repeat round 8
Round 13: slip two sts onto cable needle, place cable needle to the front of work, knit next two sts, knit two sts off of cable needle, *p 2, k 2*, around
Round 14 – 17: repeat round 8
Round 18: repeat round 13
Round 19 – 22: repeat round 8
Round 23: repeat round 13
If you would like to have a longer slouch on your hat, add additional repeats of rounds 8 – 13.

Decrease: Switch from 9mm circular needles to 9mm double pointed needles
Round 1: k2tog, k2tog, *p 2, k 2*, around
Round 2: *k 2, p2tog*
Round 3: *k2tog, p 1*, around
Round 4: *k2tog* around
Round 5: *k2tog* around

Cut yarn and using tapestry needle, thread needle and then through the remaining stitches. Once all of the stitches have been taken off of the circular needles, pull tightly to close the circle and weave in the end. Weave in any other ends.

Button Placement (optional):
Place button at the base of the cable and center in on the banding. If the button’s holes are large enough you can thread some of your bulky yarn and sew the button on. Weave in any ends. Enjoy your Pumpkin Seeds slouch hat.
